VIA pripravuje nový quad-core procesor pod označením VIA CN-R na 28nm

Keďže vždy musím čakať až do okamihu kým niekto iný verejne zverejní to čo žiaľ nesmiem publikovať (i keď v diskusiach Vám to len medzi riadkami naznačujem) tak som rád, že v čase prezentácie platforiem na rok 2013 založených na procesorových jadrách ako napr. AMD Jaguar ako aj nového Intel Atomu na rok 2013 sa pohli ľady aj u VIA a redakcia IT serveru www.h-online.com vyspovedala šéf dizajnéra Centaur Technology (rozm. VIA procesorov) pána Glenna Henryho.


Jedná sa o refresh VIA Isaiah microarchitektúry (CN) v roku 2013. Pôvodná VIA Isaiah microarchitektúra z roku 2008 mala označenie VIA CNA a jednalo sa o jednojadrové procesory VIA Nano 1000/2000 Series (65nm Fujitsu litografia) asi o rok a pól neskôr prišlo k prvej optimalizácii do podoby VIA CNB jednojadrá VIA Nano 3000 E-series, (65nm Fujitsu litografia), ktorej základ sa o rok neskôr preniesol aj do multi-core procesorov VIA Nano X2 (Eden X2) a QuadCore 4000 Series (40nm TSMC litografia) pod označením VIA CNQ (aby Vás to nezmietlo VIA CNQ bol len 2x alebo 4x VIA CNB).

Naproti tomu novinka VIA CN-R (R ako refresh) z dielne VIA/Centaur bude s najväčšou pravdepodobnosťou monolitickým natívnym štvorjadrom a bude sa vyrábať 28nm procesom TSMC. VIA má v plánoch pripravené aj SoC. riešenie avšak VIA CN-R ním ešte nebude, nakoľko bude stále spojene cez paralélnu zbernicu VIA V4 bus až 1333MHz (obdoba FSB) teda pamäťový radič sa bude nachádzať v all-in-one single-chip chipsete ako napr. VIA VX11H MSP na 40nm TSMC litografii (čo je tč. najnižšia chipsetová litografia, ale aj FCH a PCH litografia na trhu).

Frekvencia VIA CN-R by sa mala pohybovať v tradičnom rozmedzí medzi 1.2GHz až 2.0GHz a procesor by mal byť dostupný v polovici roka 2013. VIA CN-R by mal podporovať pokročilé SIMD AVX2 a zdokonalený kryptografický koprocesor VIA PadLock, ktorý je už jedno desaťročie pýchov VIA. Zaujímavou novinkou je aj pridanie vyrovnávacej pamäte tretej úrovne L3 cache, ktorá pôvodne mala byť až 4MB avšak len pár dní dozadu pred príchodom redaktorov z www.h-online.com bolo z ekonomicko/konkurenčných dôvodov rozhodnuté na redukcii na polovicu a to 2MB L3 cache.

Naozaj rok 2013 bude veľmi zaujímavý a refresh VIA CN-R, na ktorom cca. 100 pracovníkov Centaur Technology pracuje paralélne už niekoľko rokov dokazuje, že aj v skromných podmienkach a vytrvalou prácou odborníkov sa dá vytvoriť výkonovo konkurencieschopná architektúra v segmente low-cost/low power x86.

Dá sa s úsporným 1.2GHz VIA QuadCore procesorom niečo hrať?
Držiac sa hesla DIY (Do it yourself) som si postavil VIA high performance, power efficient SFF (Small Form Factor) Mini-ITX desktop PC a za očelom testovania som sa troška aj skúsil hrajkať (Just Cause 2 Demo, F1 2012 Demo a Battlefield 3).
